Iezer Lake – Maramureș
“Iezer Lake” is located in the valley under „Pietrosul Rodnei” Peak, at an altitude of 1,825 m. Its area is 3.450m² and the maximum depth is 2.5 m, with a half hectare area. Seen from the ridge, the lake has the outline of our country. It is a very clear glacial lake, surrounded by mountains and a beautiful area full of juniper trees, where you can spend a relaxing few hours.
In mid-June flourishes the “rhododendron” or “mountain peony”, a flower protected by the law, which spreads a penetrating odor. The flourishing of “Rhododendrons”, makes the landscape of Rodnei Mountains, even more spectacular.
Near the lake is the meteorological station. From here, you can climb the winding path leading to the peak “Pietrosul Rodnei”. At 2,303 meters, in the top of the mountain, is the refuge, which indicates that we are on the highest peak in “Rodnei Mountains”. From this point you can admire the panorama, magnificent surroundings, which gives you the opportunity to have at your feet, all the mountains around you. For those who like to hike, they may choose to go camping and spend the night in the available camping areas.
